Guelph Greener Homes Program (GGHP)
Claim Up To $15,000 for Energy Upgrades
The Guelph Greener Homes Program (Guelph Energy Rebate) helps homeowners make energy-efficient upgrades by offering a 0% interest loan of up to $50,000 and, for eligible low-income households, a grant of up to $15,000 specifically for heat pump installations.
The program is designed to reduce energy costs, improve home comfort and support Guelph’s climate goals by encouraging upgrades such as insulation, window and door replacements, heat pumps, and solar energy systems.
By tying repayment to property taxes and requiring no repayment for the low-income grant stream, the program makes home energy retrofits more financially accessible while helping residents transition to cleaner, more efficient heating and cooling solutions.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to apply before starting any work?
Yes. You must register and be approved before beginning upgrades. Starting work early can make the project ineligible for rebates or the 0% loan.
What’s the maximum financial support I can receive?
The program offers up to $50,000 at 0% interest through the loan stream, and up to $15,000 in grants for low-income households installing eligible heat pumps.
Is an energy audit required?
Yes. Both a pre-retrofit and post-retrofit energy assessment are required to measure improvements and confirm eligibility. These assessments must be completed by a registered energy advisor.
Can I combine this with other rebates like Enbridge or federal programs?
In most cases, yes. The Guelph Greener Homes Program can be stacked with other incentives such as Enbridge’s Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+) and other federal programs, maximizing your savings.
Can I use this program to make improvements for a home that is not my primary residence?
Yes, any residential homeowner in Guelph can participate in the program. You must be the owner of the property.
